50 Notes on Catalogue of Single Horsemen (opposite page).
To gain a number in this catalogue, a the single figure must include (whether so preserved or later joined) the head of the rider attached to the complete trunk of his body, which in turn must be attached to at least a part of the trunk of the horse's body. The same number, with T prefixed, will be found on the underside of the trunk of the horse.
In this catalogue, whose purpose is to form the groundwork of the final cataloge but more chiefly to furnish a useful workroom list and record provenience sections, contains the following items, with corresponding abbreviations:
First Line: Catalogue No. [to which T. must be prefixed] Mold No: M. [see Mold Index, p. ] Color of Clay:
Second and Third Lines: Provenience of fragments N = North E = East S = South W = West 1 = First layer 2 = Second layer Thus N.W.1 = North West section of 1st Layer. [cf. Excavator's Notebooks].
Fourth Line: Notes of relevant peculiarities.
In the provenience section, when one section alone appears at first, it refers to the essential trunk (super) of the group, which was found intact. When two nos. appear, they refer to, first the lower upper, then the upper joined parts of that trunk.
