1377 DIARY
March 19 Finished removing stratum 2 in areas mentioned yesterday. Began removing strat 16 A-Γ south 0-2. Removing dumps with wheelbarrows, dump which accumulated yesterday from south extension of Pit 75. In many places over fine terrace wall of Pit 60 (Grid point A 0 is on facade of this wall) strat. 2 does not reach down to top of wall but earth changes becoming harder over wall. No change north of wall where bottom of strat. 2 is lower than top of wall.
March 21 Cleaned out Pit 60 down to depth dug before war. (See p. 127). Removed Grid β-γ, 1 m north & south, strat 3 b (p. 1367-3b) and (p 1371-3b) - all sand. Strat 3a & 3b the same. 3b is flush with what appears to be 2d step of stairway leading west along face of wall. Continuing digging Grid A-E south 0-4 strat 11(a) & 11(b). Removed

March 22 Removed p 1367-4 & p 1371-4 clean sand - same strat. as p. 127-5. Section on p. 1367 doesn't show 4 as this strat. of sand is further north than section line. Shows in p 1371. Began removing p 1367 & 1371 strat 5. In cleaning out Pit 60 of all the earth & washings that came in since the war, some earth on east side of trench was also removed which had been there before the war. This was not noticed by workmen inasmuch as this formed part of an ancient fill of an ancient intrusive pit - the same as we have noticed in further east - p 1167 & 1171. Removing Grid A-Γ south 0-2, strat 2. (See File 115-10) Began removing an intrusive pit dug into strat 2 Grid (Γ-1.00-Δ) - ΙΓ, north 0-2
