[margin left: SE. Bldg. room 2 the niches] DIARY 2866 18 June 51 A stone slab similar to that found in north "window" of room 2, in S.E. Bldg. was found in south window. Both were covered with well plaster. The one in s. n. "window" was covered with painted plaster F 1911 (see Film 157-24). The slab from S. "window" (0.84m. x 0.605) would appear to have no other possible purpose than to serve as back wall of a nich if we consider the window to have been a nich and not a window as Mr. Hill now does. This explains the similar slab found in the north window. It was the position and dimensions of the S. window slab that betrayed its purpose. The height of the niches from the ground is determined by the first or tie piece in the south cont. p. 2872
