DIARY tion lamps to the best of my knowledge come in before the principat of Augustus at the very earliest, and are in common use much later and at least until the the middle of the 1st century A.D. as stratum was the first real stratum after one 2-8 being all the same and obviously a 1st century A.D. disturbance it is fairly safe to assume 9-12 belongs to an earlier period and is an occupation dating from the last period of use of the cistern or fuch. Two Ptolemaic coins in the settling pit and the absence of imperial lamps and thin plain ware points to a period as early as the 3rd quarter of the 1st century B.C.
