DIARY 1530. (cont. fr. p. 1508) and Film 126-29. Found drain with a cover block, which catered to both plunge baths.

[margin left: Large plunge bath] Yesterday and again today washed large plunge bath with a weak solution of hydrochloric acid, to find that the whole is in color, or was so. Most of it is covered with a thin coating of adhesive lime which is very difficult to remove. I find now that the tesserae are white and the color is due to paint. Great care therefore must be taken in removing the lime deposit to avoid removing the color with it.

16 June'49 & 17th June [margin left: BATH S. of room 8] Removing debris left over floor for wheelbarrows, S. of east end of room 8. See Film 127-17.
