DIARY cont fr p. 1348 BATH 17 May 49

[margin left: room 3] Michalis foreman, began restoring yesterday under Mr. Hill's direction the brick pillars at entrance from central area of room 3, (Bath) to south bay useing bricks found in hypocaust for the restoration work. Continuing this work today Removed strat. 1285- 2[circled: a] and 3 room 3, hypocaust, west bay, under floor. Strata 2 and 2[circled: a] are the same as 1263-2, both in flue and north and south of it - light brown soft strat. Strat 3 north of flue is like 1263.3, quite dark, being blackened by fire. There is a brick floor here at level of rest of hypocaust floor in center of room. Floor, however, in flue and south of flue is lacking at this level and strat 3 here is not nearly so dark as strat 3 north of flue and in center of room (1263-3.), but darker and duller in color than 1285-2 & 2[circled: a],
