DIARY 1076 Also dug Trench 9, (γ - 140 - δ) to (δ - 120 - ε) south 2.50 - 4.50. Strat. 2 See section p. 1067. This stratum consists of debris, many building stones - almost all rubble, and many tiles. Two cornice blocks restored in cement for podium of stadium set up in place by J.T. Dug room at south end of alley, lower room, a small trial pit opposite corner of wall where column stands, from floor level down to bedrock. See section opposite page, stratum 3. Very few sherds, & 2 or 3 frags of tiles only, reddish earth. This was fill, not debris. Dug also Trench 9 south of south wall of lower room S. of alley, section page 1019 Strat. 3. (α - β - [illegible] to wall) south 10.70 - 11.50 m, Dark brown soil slightly reddish, moderate number of stones, fist size and smaller, very few tiles, not many sherds. No debris. Reached terracotta pipe line running along south face of wall. The ground in which pipe lies definitely softer than that immediately to south of it although stratum looks the same in all other respects.
