DIARY (Continued from p. 1052) this area after stratum 2 was removed. See also Film 112 #2, and Section p 979 Mr Hill digging out a little of debris immediately east of court of E. Bldg. Alot of mud mortar here among stones. Not quite as white as usual bldg. material. Whiteness probably due often mainly to gypsum used in roof for securing tiles. Tiles here conspicuous for their absence.

1 June 1948 Digging Trench 9 E-N, south 0-2 strat 2 between walls many small stones coming out - in fact full of them, and rather reddish soil. Digging also 2-4 to uncover bedrock, is cut beyond which point there is nothing but debris. See section p 1048. 1037. many small stones from 2 to 4 south also - fill not debris. Also digging in area far northeast of cistern 3 Trench 8, E-N, South 4-6 in area of debris, where bedrock has been cut. Most of debris appears to have been from terrace wall. See Film 112 #6
