DIARY standing. See film 111, nos 18, 19 26, 27, and 28, for this area. * Street 1 E--H west 0--4, strat 2 to depth of 0.68 m. below modern ground level, beginning with this stratum at depth of .40 m. below modern ground level. Reddish earth and very few stones. E-2 west 6-6 466 Strat. 1 dug before war. Removed Strat. 2 E-H west 6-8 and 2-H west 4-6 to bedrock. * See F 2045-2047.
31 May 1948(Monday). Trench 9, E-17, south 6-8+, stratum 2 (debris and fill thrown in over debris of fallen terrace wall. See sections pp. 1079 and 1051. Finished digging Street 1, H-O, west 8-10, strat. 1 (surface soil) and began strat. 2. Also finished digging E-I west 0-4, strat. 2, and F-H west 0-8, strat 2, reaching bedrock at bottom of strat 2 4E-2 west 4-8. No sherds found in depressions in rock. Great many sherds and fair number of figurines found E-H west 0-4. No clear stratification in this area west of street 1; probably consists of a filling in during the 1st century A.D. I see now that H-I, street 1, was removed some time ago. See film 112 # 1 show
