9 December Dug trial pit Street 1, see page 837, and dug out drain in it down to rock. Trench 10, A-2, digging 2d strat. of foundation of pavement down to rock along east half of trench. Widened Trench 10, east 16-18 50 cm to west A-E to beginning of west wall of Street 1, removing surface soil. Trench 10, in section 10-12 east A-Γ digging down to rock in east half of trench removing foundation of street pavement. Almost completed removing mud washing in E. bldg. court. See Film 103 #14 showing fallen tiles just under north wall of court. Began digging among debris Trench 9, J-3 E-7 north 6-14. Surface soil removed from this area before war. Dug trial pit by piece of pavement, Street 1, see plan & section p. 839 and found section of drain.
10 December Refilled Trench 10, A-2, east 4-6 all but drain. See Film 103 # 16-18 incl. Removed small amount of surface soil left (except for small sample) at extreme south end of Street 1. Dug 839-2 drain Street 1. continued p. 892
