(24/XI/41) (1 /XI/41) not E on herpt. Stop at the uneven level where find again pockets of sand. (Later) at this sample of sandy surface in a line || E N side of trench, all next scarps. Cleaning the rock (pebble rock) where about reached day before yesterday, find it cut, leaving channel next wall about .20 wide at top (narrows down). The rock separated also from wall B/at back, by ca. .40 (varying). At level of sandy pockets, Wall B sticks out beyond upper part. (See section p. 107.)

Considering S cut, the plan of the deposit does not seem very well cleared out. The hollow is bounded to the E by the wall(?) stones visible in the scarp of Trench 43, otherwise its edges seem to be of the whitish earth found at this level. Clear away the rest of the loose earth in here. Much blackened. Some bits of glass near surface. No more sherds. Bits of charcoal. The "floor" is very rough. A stone which Christi says has experienced fire. Leave it for photography.
