(13/III/42) This sandy stratum can be picked up in the scarps of the higher part of the sample & can now be seen to look. Not recognized in the S side of Tr. 75, where Wall B does not provide for this level a satisfactory correspondence. The cut stone part being set too high a level to go with the wider part in the N side separates too far to narrow part on top on the N goes with the cut stone, then [illegible] rougher layer on the S side. Below the sandy stratum, fill possibly a little stonier. The 44.0-3 part over Wall C continues in section with that further west, to W of B. In the sample as elsewhere the stony stratum seems to peter out towards Wall B.
[margin left: * code, he stops at. 41 above wide part of wall] Digging it. No sherds etc. among stones of Str. 2*. Christo says the top of Str. 3 was cut for a wall. Some sherds in the channel, 10 C . 14 of loose earth, ring foot of a local jug, 7/9. He stopped [illegible] finds a change of earth in the channel now - . 12 above the wider part of Wall B. Taking down the part of Stratum 3 above the sandy layer. Find at this level quite a hard whitish level, quite uneven, over the sandy stratum
