Extension of Trench 43 in 1941
19/v/41 Dump is being moved - from time to time on this last day - with a view to excavating the dromoi belonging to this tomb (no. 1) and the small one to NE of 1 (see bottom of p. 56) with its dromos. Christo believes the small tomb is a side chamber of the large, but looks to me unlikely because of encroachment, and different levels of doors, the stone of the smaller one resting considerably higher than that of the larger. A trench marked to cut across dromos or dromoi N of Tomb 1 leaving a martyra along the original Tr. 43 but cutting down the (E) side of Tr. 75 over the fine wall visible in its lower east side. The upper earth on this side as all round is soft brown arable earth over a meter deep down to where are visible the stones of some late construction. Between this and the fine [illegible] early wall, another ±.60 of brown earth. Drawings of Tr. 75, see McF. p. 507 copied p. 67 above Went down ca. .30 in this trench.
