157 This clear story would receive its light in the afternoon when the bath were most in use
Note the light in SW rooms may in period when bath first built have also come fr a clear-storey for the light in floor of SW rooms is higher than that of large room b about .5 m. and intentionally so. The m wall of SW rooms with its parallel ly to East wall and its cement on east side ma be contemporary with the change in larg room whereby large room was converted from three rooms into one large room. with this change the clear story went an the east portion of SW rooms had to be used because they were nearer the light i.e. the light in the easte from windows. Th large room may have thus been changed into a regular and larger palaestra, th SW rooms remaining the ceroma. May the large rooms have been used for ball playing
(It might be that room WMN with it's columns and its light -note N.B. no column by north wall - which contrasts with WMS and its darkness and lack of columns - was a sort of receiving receiving room for the users and that in Room WMS a servant kept the ba bara σαππων ελαιον κτλ which he gave out through the window to the in the North wall of WMS to their users.
That the large room was used for ball playing or wrestling would explain the good the surface of its floor, i.e. [illegible] clay in contrast with mosaic and carefully laid stone in lavatory.

In the rooms part of rooms east of SW rooms but west of ΕΙΣΑΓΕΤΕ room, the lighting must have come from the north side in the small area way between the east wall of the large room and west wall of staircase leading up to room with ΕΙΣΑΓΕΤΕ inscription, there would also have been a window in it on the west side of south stair, i.e. leading into court, for the south wall of ΕΙΣΑΓΕΤΕ room did not extend to north wall of mosaic north of garden. The SW room may have received some light from in west part from "window" of Pete's Room K. Can these rooms have been used for wrestling with waxed floors.
The Rooms on east side of room with ΕΙΣΑΓΕΤΕ inscription The WMN must have received light from window in north wall WMS may have received some light from window in central part in north wall or less probably it received light from window in south wall. As south wall bordered on stair to cellar under Room O, this stair was probably in period of bath under cover, so that this would have window would have opened into darkness.
