mentioned which is in reality the fifth layer. This layer by and large has a much smoother surface and lies more nearly level not panning up against walls. It might conceivably have been a floor. Beside the wall of the theater there are stones. In the nw hole in the middle, it seems that this layer covers loose stones of which those by the wall of the theater are part. Just southwest of entrance under theater, the soil is about 1.4 below top of preserved wall of theater. Top wall between theater and palace is 1.6 from top of preserved wall of theater it is 1.6 lower. Bes SE of north door in wall between theater and bath it slopes downward, being, 25 cm in a horizontal distance of one meter. sherdbag 38

South of south dromos cleared fifth layer p.105, cleared soft part of sixth clearing hardest part of sixth. Cleared remainder of fourth layer p.115 which projected toward theater about .5 meters. N.B. 2 coffin fr of roof tile in soft part of sixth and one fr. of heavy brick tile.

Cleaning second layer west of north part of theater and south of south arch Cleaning first layer west of south parodos. Cleaning first layer west and north of south part of theater. Cleaning patcha in center dromos Cleaning fill south of patcha [illegible] in dromos about one and a half meters north of center into dromos from outside, a black fill begins. It is about 20 cm above level of floor. The fill here above this black layer is virtually the same and is composed of loose stones. It begins about 50 cm below top of preserved outside wall. Cleared entrance no. 2. The NW part was more closely comp acted than rest of secon The north western part of second layer, and began about .5 meter NW of second wall counting wall even with edge of dromos wall as wall no. 1. It contained much black, as did second layer in back of wall no 1. Cleaning second black in center dromos south part.
