20:15 (a)

June 21, 1954 Laid out a trench in continuation of 20:15, in an orientation approximately N-S, 2×6m. Call this 20:15(a). It is hoped to throw more light on this area which appears to be connected with the copper industry (cf. p.15).

Photo BAM '54 no. 1 General view of area cleaned up before digging.

The top-soil is light brown and completely uniform. Almost from the surface down it contains numerous white flecks (decayed vegetation?). Change sherds at 40cm. Below this soil becomes slightly lighter but has the same firm consistency.

At southern end of trench pick up a bank of harder earth with embedded chavara fragments. In remainder of trench earth becomes slightly redder.

June 22, 1954

It appears from the stratification that a small intrusion went down to just above the bank. Change sherds at 75cm below surface.
