Excavation at Bamboula
The fill of the destroyed tomb in the north part of 20:15b is to be understood as a unit. It contained a saddle quern and the following sherds:
76 sherds pithoi 14 " n-m coarse 2 " PWM I 15 " PWM II 3 " WS II 1 " Myc. IIIA2/B 2 " LC III Dec. 6 " w-m buccheros with red wash 89% plain
This distribution suggests the end of LC II or the beginning of LC III. The fill of this tomb, which shows no signs of re-use, is thus parallel in time with that of the adjacent tomb.
Sherd bag cards: 20:15b From top of braxos cutting to 35 cm.; do., Upper part of braxos cutting 35 to c. 75 cm. below uppermost part of cutting; do., Lower part of braxos cutting below ca. 75 cm.
20:15c The filling in of pits and intrusions, all of which may previously have been tombs, is clearly of LC IIIA date. Pit no.1 and intrusion no.2 had human(?) bones
Sherdbag cards: 20:15c Pit no.1; do., Pit no.2; do., Intrusion no.2 top tolm; do., 1m. to 1.8m.
20:15 b-e The greater part of the area excavated south of Daniel's tr 20, with the exception of 20:15a, consisted of bedrock at an average of 40 cm. below the present surface. Depressions below bed-rock level: tombs in 20:15b and pits in 20:15c were filled in deliberately. The sherds taken from the whole area (b-c-d-e) to the upper bedrock level are as follows:
111 sherds pithoi 117 " coarse ware, mostly h-m 1 " PWM I 22 " PWM II 2 " Plain white 1 " WS I 3 " WS II 5 " wash (2 h-m) 2 " BR 3 " LC III Dec. (bowl) 1 " Bl. slip (MC) 1 " Bl.slip buccherо burnished 2 " Greek black glaze 1 " Hellenistic 1 " Pergamene 2 " Roman red
