4-6-38| 15:2 (from p. 135) To the east the earth is a bit redder, more like that among a patch of stones against the S. wall. Dig below 3.89, through sandy grey earth.

6-6-38 Continue digging below 3.89, removing the occasional stones which lie in this grey earth. The grey section extends into the E. part of the unit, where there is a little of it below 3.94. Dig this out too. This grey earth clears against and on the E sandy reddish brown earth, and, at the west, upon a sloping layer with much white crushed rock. In the center it continues down, maybe as a pit. The reddish level at which most of the grey earth stops is at 4.11.

7-6-38 The pit ends at 4.57, at part on the white earth and in part on brown. Photos S 11-12 of 15:2 at this level Some more grey earth was found among stones on the S, and in the 4.11 level. Remove this too.
