23-4-382:E:1 (from J.F.D. I, p. 177) [circled: 15] H 12, I 1-3 Tomb Bam. 1 Clear an E.C. tomb discovered outside the circuit wall at closing time yesterday. It is sunk only slightly into the bed-rock, which must have been much higher in E.C. times.
Bones and frags. of pottery are found ca. 10 cm. above bed-rock, covered by a very hard layer of earth with much white rock. It seems that the tomb collapsed soon after building. This probably accounts for its partial preservation. It goes partly under the circuit wall.
Another pit was found yesterday just south of 2:E:1, also going under the wall. Judging from its shape it too may have been a tomb. It contained a hard stony red fill, and many L.C. II sherds.
Numerous bones and sherds were found, but in a disturbed condition. Nothing could be determined concerning their original position or the confines of the tomb, save perhaps on the south. Photos 228-231 of objects in situ. No plans drawn.
The bed-rock must have been about a meter above its present level when the burial was made.
