earth and a great many stones.

(see JFD V, p. 21)Unit 26: Digging below 10.67 = 10.80, find another level in tumble at 10.76 = 10.90. We dig below this and begin to find a floor of packed \grey-\ brown earth with fine grey sand, whi, and some patches of ash, at 10.86 = 10.94

Unit 16: Start clearing the pit, and begin to find the fragments of a large krateramphora. The fill of the pit is loose red brown sandy earth.

Unit 25: Dig below the 9.96 = 10.67 level, through red-brown earth, maybe tumble. A line of yellow clay nearly opposite the wall between units 16 & 20 serves as a line for dividing the unit to E & W. In 25 west find a fairly clean brown level at 10.26 = 10.34. A large pot is partly visible on its side. 25: East, find a similar level at 10.43 = 10.77. In the NW the level is greenish; the earth over this was harder.
