Remove the 8.94 = 9.12 floor in unit 4. Reach bed-rock at 9.09 = 9.22, smoothed and used as a floor. Here too we find some pottery in situ. In Unit 3 clear to the 9.30 = 9.44 floor. It is composed of chavara, and is uneven and worn. Just west of intrusion # 2 (see below) it slopes up slightly to a strip of bed-rock, which was showing, and so utilized as floor. Isolate intrusion # 2 in unit 3. It starts from the 9.21 floor, where the sherds of pithos # 5 were. It must have been dug to accomodate the pithos. About 30 cm. down in the intrusion find the terracotta stamp (seal), p. 144, # 1. Clear the north-east extension of the trench to a solid layer of brown earth at 9.62 = 9.89. This must be an occupation level in spite of the lack of walls: perhaps it is outside the house. Unit 5: find traces of fire in the south corner, probably from a bonfire. In the corner are fragments of a pithos. (to p. 147)
