TOMB NO. 36

14-11-35 Find the dromos of tomb No 36. It is narrow and short. Start clearing it.

P15-11-35 Continue clearing dromos of tomb 36. Doors appear at each of the long ends of the dromos. That at the E end is of small stones set in clay; that at the west is closed with one large slab and smaller stones, apparently without clay.

16-11-35 Reach bottom of dromos; & draw section of fill. The E door rests on earth. A strosis goes from this to a point about halfway up the west end. This would seem to be represent the second burial, and to indicate the point to which the fill in the tomb dromos was dug out at the time of the re-use of the dromos. The earliest burial would thus seem to be that at the west.

18-11-35 Begin clearing West chamber.

15-11-35TOMB No 34 (from p. 24)

Start opening tomb chamber. Two large bucchero jugs with twisted handles and an amphora with c-circles on the shoulder were found jambed up against the stones closing the door.

16-11-35Fin Continue clearing chamber. Many pots appear.

18-11-35 Finish clearing the chamber.

19-11-35 Photos £ 1-2 of chamber

Remove 54 objects from the chamber (see p. 39f). The amphora no. 51 contained human bones, minus the skull and legs, thus probably the missing part of the partial skeleton in situ. Amphora no. 52 also contained human bones, apparently a complete skeleton. There was nothing in the arrangement or stratification of the tomb to indicate that the second skeleton (i.e. the one in no. 52) was ever buried prone in the chamber.
