Nov. 27Central Room
This room saw three periods of use. 1) in which there was cistern in NE. corner 2) Cistern filled and water led in tile drain across cistern to to pierced marble outlet in Wall A. 3) In which outlet blocked by diverting channel.
Only 2 fl. levels can be distinguished by me one at level just covering drain across cistern (which might equally well belong to period of cistern and one, c. 0.15 m above which seems contemporary with mosaic.
Althoug deposit of surface over this room (0.60 m and more) twice as heavy as in E Room - v. few sherds those mostly tiles - nothing so far definitely dateable, few "thin coarse ware" combed or ridged.
From Cistern II coin (drawing) few mostly nondescrip sherds rim of brick red pithos - di c. 40 cm decorated with applied wavy lines sort of pie crust.

W Room. 9.
Nov. 27The fill above fl. of this complex gets progressively deeper from the 30 cm at E side of E Room to c. 1.20 m over W Room. The top .30 m are blackish loam changing gradually to yellowish sandy soil similar to fills of Cisterns I & II.
The earth over W Room is packed with tile frags and large stones, mostly squared building blocks and numerous frags of column drums (di. 40-43) broken in two to be reused as wall blocks as in foundation of Wall B (see p. 4) One, however is neatly cut, originally probably ½ applied column. All of these columns rough finished, but in no case is there any trace of finishing plaster coat.
From earth above W Room coin. (drawing) prob. Roman 4th C. Cent.
