REPORT

OF THE SECRETARY OF THE FACULTY AND OF THE FACULTY COUNCIL.

The Faculty of Athens College, which is a body comprising the entire teaching staff and the members of the administration, had four regular meetings during the past school-year, in addition to several special meetings held to discuss matters pertaining to the progress and promotion of individual students.

The regular meetings were taken up with the reading of reports of the work done by the Faculty Council, and with the transaction of business pertaining to discipline, the curriculum and other routine matters. At the last meeting of the year, the body appointed three of its members to act as its elected representatives on the Faculty Council during the coming school-year.

The Faculty Council, or Executive Committee, which previously comprised nine members, was reorganized at the end of last year, by a suitable amendment to the By-laws of the Faculty, to include eleven members representing various sections of the membership of the Faculty. Thus, the Faculty Council is composed at present of the following permanent and nonpermanent members:

1.The President, the Co-director, the Principal, the Housemaster, the Registrar and the Secretary of the Faculty.

2.Two members appointed by the President at the beginning of the year, one to represent the House and one the Demotic School.

3.Three members elected by the Faculty at the end of the year to serve on the Council during the following school-year.

In the course of the present school-year the Faculty Council held twenty-seven meetings in which it attended to such general and particular matters as the following:

1.The calendar of work for the current and the coming school years.

2.Prize Speaking and Prize Essay contests.

3.Approval of plays given by the students or teachers.

4.Student publications.

5.Educational excursions and visits to sites of historic and other interest.

6.The appointment of a Valedictorian and a Salutatorian of the class of 1937.

7.Cases of discipline of individuals and of classes.

8.General routine business.
