For examples fallen bits of s. wall & worked blocks see draughtsman's drawings, for this area. About [gap: half-width space] bucket sherds including late Roman (4th cent.) wares about 1 wheelbarrow load of tiles which I have stacked on s. wall at 43.00 m. east of west end. Some glass F 1656, and coin F 1657. No other finds. Continued building up south and west wall of rooms to take concrete slab in restoration of floor behind stylobate. See Film 152-17 and 18. Also building up east wall of room 3 for same purpose.

F1720 F 172115 March51. Removed room 5, east side, 5.70-9.85 m. north of s. wall, p. 2497-4, loose reddish brown soil with small rough stones in quantity averaging about walnut size unlike 2497-3 which contained fallen bldg. stones which newere later covered by fill. About 1/3 bucket sherds, no tiles, 4 pot handles with incised characters F 1658. From sieve about [gap: half-width space] bucket sherds. no other find Removed same area 2497-5 dark red soil, hard, with rough stones averaging about egg size but some up to fist size, about handful of sherds, no tiles. From sieve came also handful sherds. No other finds. This stratum seemed little disturbed ever, almost natural. No sherds near walls.

16 Mar.51. In course of cleaning some stones off s.w. corner of S. Bldg. found F 1660. A handful sherds found here were thrown out. Removed 00-3.00 m. south of S. Bldg. 32.80-38.00 east of w. end p. 2607-2, rather white yellowish clean fill, very loose, largest stones about egg size but very few. The coarse ware

pottery at least some of it is post 1st century A.D. but this stratum may be debris but looks more like fill. About 1/3 bucket sherds. No tiles, suggesting stratum may be fill. Some thin blown glass F 1661. 1 pot handle with character [gap: half-width space] F 1662. Ter. figurine (mold made head of man) F 1663. No other finds.

17 Mar.51. Removed 00-3.00 m. s. of S. Bldg. and 24.00-32.80 m. east of west end, 2615-1, loose light brown soil with many stones ranging on average from egg size to double fist size but some larger. Probably fill. About [gap: half-width space] bucket sherds - no late Roman noted - nothing looks later than 1st A.D. Some Hellenistic. 1 tile frag. only, placed in sherd bag. 1 pot handle with incised character [gap: half-width space] F 1664, glass F 1665, and coin F 1666. Also F 1759. No other finds. Cleaned step north of threshold block at north end of room 3, west side of room, found F 1667, key, on lower step (well cut to serve as step). See film 153-2.

19 March.Removed 2 worked blocks from place where stored west of W. Bldg. 3.40 m. and at 27.70 north of n. wall of propylon porch. Dimensions of blocks were: (a) 106 x 19 x 50. 0.06 m. were cut from thickness and block is now end stylobate block east stylobate, n.e. wing, room 3. (b) 1.15 x 0.485 x 0.155

which is now in portico of S. Bldg. opposite room 3. Am planning to use it in east stylobate, at north end also. Have removed two coping blocks (Arch. blocks nos. [gap: half-width space] ) from east stylobate wall of room 4, near s. end (see Film 153-3), to room 3. Placed longer of two (no. [gap: half-width space] ) immediately north of restored plinth 1 (bearing column 1) on west stylobate. The other is to go on east stylobate at north end. Removed S. Bldg. room 5, east side, 2.00-6.00 m. north of s. wall, 2333-3, 1 loose dark brown soil with many stones including worked blocks which once belonged to destroyed wall on which back of east stylobate of room 5 appears to have been founded. Of these blocks I have removed one which I have placed on east wall of room at 4.03 m. north of s. wall, and another block on same wall at 5.06 n. of s. wall, and a third on early wall on which east stylobate is partly founded at 3.25 n. of s. wall. The rough stones were about foot size.
