soil, many rough stones averaging about [fraction: 1/2] bucket size; about [fraction: 1/2] wheelbarrow load of tiles and about [fraction: 1/2] bucket of sherds. Two lamp frags. (bronzer type XXVIII) F 1405 and nail frags. which I am placing with sherds. No other finds. Removed also in Corridor 1, 7.00-12.50 m. north of s. wall 2301-3, very dark soil, blackened by fire, very loose, very few stones - none larger than fist size, a wheelbarrow load of tiles which I am stacking on west wall at 9.50 m. north of s. wall. Many bones at north end of
area. Am placing these in sherd bag. About [fraction: 1/2] bucket of sherds. Box of glass frags. F 1406. No other finds. Bones were found strewn at bottom of stratum at 11.45-12.50 north of s. wall. Removed S. Building, room 5, w. side, 2.00-5.40 m. north of s. wall, 2303-1, loose reddish brown soil, many rough stones averaging half bucket size, over 1 bucket tiles. This stratum looks like debris but is almost certainly fill as the top of this stratum is strewn here and there with blue pebbles to serve as foundation for floor corresponding with other floor east and west of central parts of the 5 rooms of the S. Bldg. Furthermore a piece of the pavement of the paved floor at the bottom of 2303-2 was found in 2303-1. Apparently it had been removed from its place and then thrown into the fill covering the earlier paved floor at bottom of 2303-2. Stacking tiles on west wall at 2.90 m. north of s. wall. About 1/6 bucket of sherds. No ribbed wares or grooved handle. No other finds. Removed also here further south, 0.00-2.00 m. north of south wall, 2303-1, like strat. from 2.00-5.40 but with much fewer stones, and contained only 2 tile frags. About 1/6 bucket of sherds - no late sherds. All fill apparently Placed tiles w. sherds. Removed 2303-2, 2.00-5.40 north of s. wall like 2303-1 but without stones. About [fraction: 1/2] bucket of tiles and 1 frag. of water pipe which I am placing with sherds. Stacking tiles at 2.10 m. n. of s. wall. About 1/8 bucket sherds. Probably nothing later than early imperial. No other finds.
Removed also 0.00-2.00 m. n. of s. wall (no paved floor here) 2303-2. No difference noted from 2.00-5.40. No tiles whatsoever. 10 sherds, 1 figurine placed with sherds. No other finds.
29. Nov.50. Removed S. Bldg., room 3, east side, 2297-2, 1.70 m. north of s. wall to 5.15, dark brown loose soil, few stones, all rough ones averaging about foot size. No tiles. About 1/3 bucket tiles. One figurine head of horse placed with sherds. No other finds. All fill. No late sherds noted. Removed Corridor 1, 0.00 - 7.00 m. north of s. wall, 2289-3, reddish soil, loose, not many, rather few, none larger than foot size, about 3 buckets of tiles which I am stacking at 4.00 m. north of s. wall on east wall. About [fraction: 1/4] bucket sherds. One worked block found at s. end which I have placed on s. end of east wall. Not certain whether this stratum is fill or not but may well be.
Further north 7.00-12.50 north of s. wall, animal bones were found at this and higher level, an indication that the strata in which they were found is fill and not debris. No other finds, save 3 chunks of gypsum and lump of lime concrete which I am placing with tiles.
30 Nov.50. Removed S. Bldg., room 4, w. side, 1.70 m. - 5.30 m. north of s. wall, 2321-1, reddish brown soil, loose, few stones save near top of stratum. Stones have served as foundation for floor - up to [illegible] bucket size. 9 tile frags. which I am stacking on west wall at 4.80 m. n. of s. wall. Nearly a bucket full of sherds. No other finds.
1 & 2 December 1950. Removed S. Bldg., room 3, east side, p. 2297-3, 1.70- 5.15 m. north of s. wall, loose red soil, fair quantity of small stones averaging fist size, largest being about double fist size. At bottom stratum some dark soil removed - somewhat grey but no other change noted here. All fill. 8 tile
