KALORIZIKI, TOMB 35 (Lot 87)

NB III, pp. 19, 25 ff.

Nov. 8, 1935Tomb 35 found in the afternoon, with relatively narrow dromos, 0.70 wide.

Nov. 9Continue clearing the dromos of tomb 35. It is about 6.50 m. long, and 0.65 to 0.70 wide. Like the dromos of Tomb 33, it is going very keep, and here too there is a possibility that the tomb was plundered. On the face of the door, not in situ, is a well shaped block and to its right, projecting, is a sun-dried brick.

Nov. 11Finish clearing the dromos, save for the strip left for the study of stroses. No different stroses are evident, and the fill of the dromos all seems to be of one date.

Scattered on the floor of the upper part of the dromos are many fragments of a large amphora, apparently smashed before the dromos was filled. [handwritten: (mw)]

Here, as in Tomb 33, there is a section in the dromos in which there are many unshaped stones with mud, maybe from mud bricks.

Nov. 12Photos D 1 and 2 of dromos finally cleared.

Nov. 14Start to open tomb no. 35. Open it from above, because of loose earth.

Nov. 15Clear a large part of Tomb no. 35. The [handwritten: Brayos] seems to have caved in almost immediately after the burial, for it lies directly upon the floor, without an intervening strosis of silt. Many of the pots are still empty. They did not fill up. The pottery in general is badly broken.

The bones of the skeleton are not in place, but the skeleton seems to have been on the right (southwest) side of the chamber, presumably with its head toward the door.

Find a bronze ring still around the finger which wore it.
