McFadden numbered the Sceptre Tomb as 40. Continuing this sequence, his tombs 1-3 will be designated as Tombs 41-43; the Archaic tomb (or grave, rather) in Trench 4 will be 44, and the plundered Geometric tomb underneath it Tomb 45.

July 27, 1954In view of the scattered position of finds 1-7 on a small sketch of McFadden's trench (not in this notebook), extend the investigated area somewhat east, south and west to be certain that no finds were overlooked. Nothing whatsoever found. There seems no possibility of reconciling the indicated position of finds 5-6-7 on the small sketch mentioned, if these are accurately placed, with a normal burial; yet if the burial was disturbed, as it seems to have been from the fact that no bones were found, how did Nos.5-7 get so far out of position without being badly shattered?
