Notes on Cypriote material in B. M. reserve.

CURIUM TOMBS:

Tomb I C 708: Wh P I. Tomb 28 C 601: Fine III A/B. C 608: Fine III A/B (given by Stubbings as III B, Pl.XIII). Important as representing goblet form in Cyprus. Technique Myc.; shape like hosts of cups found at Enkomi (e.g. C652) but with spout somewhat reminiscent of Cypriote milk bowls. Called submyc. but surely contemporary with C601, C608. Cf. A 945 absolutely standard Myc. and like A 944 in shape. Tomb 30 C 504: Myc. III B. I think almost identical with pot found in Bam. 21:12 well. C 505: Myc. III B. C 437: Myc. III B (?) dated III A by Stubbings. Pl. VIII. All Rhodian (?); occur with WS ware fragments. Tomb 31 C 571: Myc. III B/C. Called submyc. but occurs with WS. Possibly not "C". Tomb 33 C 721: Wh P I. Tomb 34 C 338: 100% standard Myc. technique. Context not informative. Tomb 48 C 597: Myc. III B said to be found with sherds of chariot crater (which supports my dating). Tomb 50 C 501: Walters is probably right in considering this Cretan though technique is very like large orange f-n jug from settlement. Interesting context includes Myc. sherds. Tomb 55 C 520: Myc. III B (Rhodian?). C 462-3: Myc. III B (?) dated III A Stubbings, Pl. VIII; occurs with WS ware jug. Tomb 57 C 521, 593, 598: Myc. III B occurring with WS II tree pattern (C 238) which supports my dating. Tomb 84 C 709: LC III B. Tomb 88 C 316: Strangely eroded and curious technique but not that of Wh. P, as Walters states. Perhaps a local imitation of Myc. ware, considered Myc. in original BM publication of tomb. Called jar or pyxis, occurs with terracotta animals not illustrated (?). Tomb 89 C 591: Myc. III B. Cf. with Stubbings Pl. XVIII #2 (III A/B). Certainly contemporary because so similar. C 659-60: LC III Dec. bowls probably late in LC III A because tallish; obvious mixture of Cypriote and Myc. motives but unmistakeably Cypriote clay. Stubbings published as Myc. III A & B (Pl. XII). C 713: Bowl ware probably LC III B. Contents of tomb seem to indicate two burials not separated by Walters. Further careful study needed. Tomb 90 C 662: Ordinary LC III Dec. bowl. No slip as per publication. No other finds. Stubbings published as Myc. III A/B (Pl. XII). Tomb 98 Notice that this tomb, not exactly located on map, was EB or MB. Tomb 101 C 522: Myc. III B occurs with BR II, confirming my dating of Myc. pot. Tomb 102 C 391: Absolutely standard Myc. in rich context. Tomb 109 C 594: Myc. III B but context uninformative.

Walters notes that Bam. was especially rich in bronzes. It is worth noting that examples of stemmed goblets have been found both at Curium
