BAMBOULA, TD MB 6
NB VII, pp. 37 ff.
25 March 1939Near the northern (lower) end of the Trench (19) we find the chamber of a partly collapsed Tomb. A surface intrusion at the south end seems not to have reached the tomb proper. Digging down through apparently undisturbed debris, we find sherds of a krater and two other L.H. III pots, and human bones. We cover these and start to open the tomb from above. This is Tomb no. 6.
27 MarchContinue opening Tomb 6. The outlines of the chamber are established. The dromos is on the north. Remove the red earth and fallen stone, and begin to find skeletal and ceramic remains. A great heap of bones, including two skulls, is found on the east. One of these skulls is still hollow, beautifully preserved. A large piece of fallen rock lies over it. Since it did not break the skull in falling, the conclusion is suggested that the tomb collapsed before the skull dried out.
Fragments of a horizontal-handled L.H. III krater with birds are found in all parts of the tomb at this high level.

Dig below this level, finding bed-rock at .... Nothing is found in situ. It appears that the objects of the main level were swept aside in preparation for a later burial, which never took place, perhaps because the tomb collapsed before it could be made.
