Supplementary Remarks on Stratification

Area E House VII In 1948 a whole series of archaic cuttings was excavated in Room 9. To this complex must also be reckoned the materials from the pit between Tr. 21:1 and Tr. 21:11, in which, among other things, the following were found: (a) gypsum fragments (b) Sh 615 (impressed pithos rim). (c) Sh 617 (frags. of a Myc. coarse ware pot)

A large area behind House VII, where bedrock lay near to the surface and with correspondingly numerous disturbances, had no traces of houses but had numerous cuttings, a situation somewhat like that of Tr. 20:15 b-e (see p. 100). However there is no evidence that these cuttings had any thing to do with a necropolis. Sherds found here are listed under a, b and c. 12 (a) Contents of a pit, possibly a cutting for a pithos 13 (b) Contents of a heavy stone foundation (presumably a basin) lying in a deep cutting in bedrock. There were also some bricks. 14 (c) Contents of a bothros which also contained large numbers of animal bones. The use of this area coincides roughly with the habitation of House VII.

13 Area E "Street of Tombs": The following were found in the street with no stratification noted.
