of the preserved part of the E wall of E.V.6. This deposit began with the remodelling of house V, which apparently involved the abandonning of the court, and continued, probably until some time after the destruction of the house. Since the walls of house V fell inward, there was none of their debris in the court to tell at exactly what stage of the deposit the house went out of use. The preserved eastern end of the south wall of E.IV.4 remained standing long after the disuse of house IV, and did not finally fall until the destruction of house V or later. The tumble of this early wall was found in the eastern part of the court, alongside the preserved foundation from which it fell, on top of the stony red-brown stratum mentioned above. Though stratigraphically the next to the latest level in the deposit, it is the earliest from the standpoint of material, a fact which is strikingly revealed by the sherd analyses.
The following sherds were found in the several strata of E.V.7.
1) The ashy deposit dating from between the construction and the remodelling of house V. West, 7.92/8.18 to 8.00/8.18; East, 7.88 to 8.09/8.19. The sherds were the following: 45% plain 45% tiles 10 sherds Bowl ware (Sh557) 2 L.C.III painted 1 Bucchero, wheel-made, without wash 3 L.H.III 1 Base Ring 4 Wash ware 2 Burnished 1 Red Polished 24 decorated sherds
2) The loose stony deposit immediately above the preceding. It follows it in date, and runs to or after the abandoning of house V. West, 7.99 to 7.92/8.18; East, 7.60 to 7.88. The sherds were: 80% plain and tiles 8 sherds Bowl ware 3 Bichrome pilgrim flask 2 L.C.III painted 4 Bucchero, wheel-made 1 White Slip II 3 Base Ring 8 Wash ware 2 Monochrome 1 Red Polished 32 decorated sherds
