AREA A STRATUM D HOUSE A.VI.a
The usual stratification of stratum D was observed in these three rooms, the only difference being the greater depth of L.C.II deposit below the house. Further excavation might perhaps show that this house, like A.IV, was first built in period C.
D(1) Deposit antedating the construction of the house contained the following sherds:
90% plain sherd [handwritten: some PWM II] Painted [handwritten: (LC III Dec. bowl) need not be LC II] 1 " Base Ring 3 " Wash ware 6 " Red Polished 1 II Decorated sherds
D(2) Accumulation over the floor of room 3 contained the following:
75% plain (G26) [handwritten: 11 PWM I] 4 sherds L.C.III Painted (bowl) 1 " L.H.III (?) [handwritten: LC III Dec. like P1426] 1 " White Slip II 4 " Base Ring 1 " Wash ware II decorated sherds
D(3) The building debris contained the following sherds:
[handwritten: PWM II considerably and heavily Oxidized] [handwritten: Sh759] 75% plain 17 sherds L.C.III Painted [handwritten: LC III Dec. bowl] (Sh128, 129) [handwritten: + 1 PWM] [handwritten: 2 ws I; 11 ws II] 18 [handwritten: 4 5 2] " L.H.III, coarse temper (Sh475) [handwritten: 2 others; lev. buff?] " L.H.III, White Slip (at least one Wh.Sl.I) 13 " Base Ring 15 " Wash ware (Sh474) 18 " Red Polished, etc. 20 decorated sherds 90
These strata correspond with the following field designations:
(N.B. There was considerable confusion in the labelling of the difference between 2:11 and 2:11.A. In the following list, 2:11A means that an A on my sherd card has since been crossed out in the process of cleaning up this mess: Likewise 2:11A' means that the A has the A may still appear on the sherd bags. Likewise there is no such mark, the original listing has been been added recently. Where there is no such mark, the original listing has been kept.)
D(1) 2:9, to 10.09/10.19; do., 9.95/9.99 to 10.09/10.19; 2:11.A',
