The second burial level (see Figures 17, 18) seems never to have been used in connection with the north stomion of Tomb 1: the bones lying on the new surface along the south and east walls had been swept from their original positions; and there was no trace at this level of a burial along the west side, the first choice position to those entering from the north. Four persons can again be distinguished. 1) The spatula and mirror case #18 and #19, and a trail of small ornaments, indicate that the remains gathered to the south wall, head west, were those of a woman originally laid about in the position of the later burial (3) found in order to the right as one enters the tomb by the northwest stomion; the relative position of the bones of 1 suggested that dissolution was incomplete at the time of removal. 2) The strigil [handwritten: #?] #15 identifies as those of a man the bones in disorder along the west wall. These seemed not to derive from more than one person, to whom apparently the five variegated glass alabastra, the unguentarium #53, and the gold leaves #61 must be attributed. The stray similar leaves found with and north of burial 4 and under the lamp #8 suggest the original position of burial 2. 3) A skeleton was found lying across the southwest corner of the tomb with head northwest. The offerings beside it are suitable to a woman, since they seem mostly to be an array of toilet articles: lead pyxis, silver unguent spoon(?), bronze spatula, a silver applicator which may have been used as an eyebrow pen (pointed at one end, with handle for thumb and finger at the other), two unguentaria, two glass bowls. The objects to be associated with this burial include also some tiny gold leaves (#31) like those found with the bones next the east
Associate the clasp and beads #22-24, perhaps also the earrings(? cf Tomb 8, 93-95) #62 and 63, the pair of gold spool-like objects 69 and 70, perhaps the pair of minute gold beads #68 and #71. The mirror #16 is probably also to be associated.
#10, 11, 14&17&50&64, 51, 52.
The remains consisted of legs in fair order, part of the pelvis, vertebrae, clavicle(?), fragments of cranium, and some teeth.
#21, 25, 27, 29, 32, 33, 20, 28.
