West wall of exedra 3.

The east face of this wall, which is like the east wall, has been cleared down to bedrock from the south end to 7.55 m. north of the south face of the south wall; and the west face, from the south end to 2.25 m. north, and from 12.30 m. to the portico wall (plan X). Elsewhere the wall has been cleared down to level -0.50 m. The rubble foundation where cleared reaches down to bedrock (Diagram 5, fig. ). There are two courses in ashlar work consisting of blocks measuring from 0.81 m. to 1.44m. in length which extend through the thickness of the wall of 0.55 m. From 12.30 m. north to the portico wall course 1 is founded on bedrock. The wall above course 2 was in rough masonry which is preserved to a maximum height -0.03 m. The last ashlar block at the north end in course 1 is 0.48 m. from the portico wall the gap between being filled with rough masonry which is bonded into the portico wall. Elsewhere both foundation and extant wall terminates against the inside face of the portico wall and is not bonded into it.

We have one bit of evidence to show that the upper non extant part of the west wall was bonded into the portico wall. This is provided by a stone in the fallen portico wall which projects 0.31 m. south of its south face exactly at that point where it met the west wall of exedra 3. It can now be seen in the restored wall where its top lies at level plus 2.25 m.
