East wall of exedra 3.

The west face of this wall, which is like the east and west walls of exedrae 1 and 2, has been cleared to bedrock from the south end to 5.40 m. north of the south face of the south wall (plan X; diagram 3 fig. ). Its rubble foundation here reaches down to bedrock, but on the east side at the south end part of its thickness rests on earlier walls (plan fig. 2). The wall above the foundation consists of two courses in ashlar work with the blocks running through the thickness of the wall of approximately 0.55 m. Above course 2 the wall was constructed in rough masonry but this is not preserved to a height above level -0.04 m. The wall from its foundation to the top of course 2 is nowhere bonded into the south wall but terminates against its north face. The north end has not been cleared to avoid removing floors here. At this end there are the remains of a broken threshold block on the top of the extant wall which here is at level -0.04 m. The top of the threshold is at level plus 0.17 m.
