West wall of exedra 2.

This wall, which is like the east wall, has been cleared to bedrock only at 1.20 m. north of the south face of the south wall for an area of about ten square centimeters where it is at level -2.53 m. (Diagram fig. 33). At the south end and from 2.00 m. to 2.50 m. north the rubble foundation rests on earlier walls (plan fig 2). The wall above the foundation is in ashlar work like that of the east wall (Film 168-3). The ashlar blocks which extend with irregularities through the thickness of the wall of approximately 0.55 m. measure from 0.83 m to 1.55m. in length. From the south end to 7.30 m. north the wall is in three courses, [handwritten: the] [handwritten: the] course 1 is not cleared below course 2. From 7.30 m. to 13.80 m. north the wall is not cleared below course 3. From 13.80 m. north to 15.30 m. north course 1 serves as the foundation course and projects beyond the west face of the wall. The east face here is not exposed and only course 3 of the west face. This which is the top extant course, terminates against west face. At the south end there is some the south face of the north wall. irregularity in the facing of the ashlar blocks so that the one projects a little beyond the other. The first ashlar block in course 1 north of the south wall is at a distance of 0.37 m. from it, and the gap between is filled in with rough masonry which is bonded into the south wall (Film 168-3). The foundation of the west wall is also bonded into the south wall's foundation. The end ashlar blocks in courses 2 and 3 of the west wall also terminate short of the north face of the south wall, as will be preceived in fig. (Film 168-3). Nothing is extant in the west wall above course 3.
