The East wall of exedra 2.
(Plan, Sections, )
This wall (film 167- ) is so like the west wall of exedra 1 that only irregularities and details of possible significance will be noted. For levels one is referred to the diagram (fig ) The east face has been cleared to bedrock from the south end to 6.70 m. north and from 15.30 m. to 15.80 m. north, and the west face, from 3.10 m. to 4.55 m. north; and from 11.40 m. to 12.95 m. north. From 0.60 m. to 1.90 m. north and from 4.50 m. to 6.50 m. north the foundation course rest on earlier walls (see plan, fig. ). Elsewhere to 6.50 m. north it is founded on a hard compact stratum of undisturbed red soil at a level averaging approximately 0.15 m. above bedrock. Further north, where cleared, it is founded on bedrock. The foundation course is like that of the east and west walls of exedrae 1. Above the foundation there are four courses in ashlar work with blocks measuring from 0.50 m. to 1.83 m. in length. There is a block in course 1 at 3.20 m. north of the south face of the south wall which projects 0.30 m. east of the east face. At 4.75 m. north there is a similar block which projects 0.15 m. east of the east face. Both rest on the foundation course (plan fig. ) The courses are extent for their entire length except from 15.30 m. north to the north end. Here the east face of the wall above course 1 is in rubble. These are the only irregularities noted. The wall above course 4 is in rough masonry which is preserved to a height of level 0.29 m. at 14.25 m. north, or about 0.38 m. above the top of course 4 (diagram fig. ) At the north end there is a stone threshold in the wall the top of which is at level +0.07 m. (plan fig. ) It is in two pieces, one measuring 0.51 m. in width; and the other, the
