UNIVERSITY INTRAMURAL CORRESPONDENCE MUSEUM

November 30, 1981Dear Bob:

This in reference to your request that I specify some one aspect of our CVA project which could be completed in 1982.

I really can't come up with one specific thing. In fact, none of the studies could possibly be completed in one year from now. The best I can do is to indicate priorities, as follows, in descending order.

1. For salary of a conservationist to work at the Museum on vases of our collection, 1 year For conservation equipment and supplies

18,000.00 2,000.00 20,000.00

Conservation of the pottery is basic and essential for all the studies. None can proceed without it. Our work is too extensive to be undertaken by the Museum's Conservation department on grounds of time, space, and personnel. Sharpe Fund?

2. Mary B. Moore, New York, study of Attic black figure pottery. Travel 1 day per week, ca. 40 weeks. Study photographs, ca. 120 vases

1,000.00 750.00

Dr. Moore is one of the top people in her field. She will be fairly free to work up her study only during the 2nd semester and summer, 1982. This is a golden opportunity we do not wish to miss.

3. Jack L. Benson, Univ. of Massachusetts, study of Corinthian and Italo-Corinthian pottery. Travel & maintenance, ca. 1-2 weeks

750.00

Dr. Benson is also one of the top people in his field, the only one actually relatively near. He has other commitments but will be ready in 1982 to undertake our study.

The remaining two are perhaps not as urgent:

4. Gerald Schaus, Canada, study of East Greek pottery. Travel & maintenance, ca. 1-2 weeks

1,000.00

Dr. Schaus may possibly be funded by his own university.

5. Ann H. Ashmead, study of Attic red figure pottery. Local transportation, suburbs to Philadelphia, 1 year

1,000.00

Mrs. Ashmead is now working largely at home so perhaps the need for funds for transportation is not so great.
