August 7, 1985Dear Roger:

The University Museum won't seem the same: What sort of plans have you and are you, for the nonce, just savoring of the unstructured life by way of a change of pace?

Thank you for writing and bringing me up to date. I shall be getting in touch with Barbara Hayden about plans and profiles which I have been reviewing and re-vamping, along with revising the first, messy text. Your letter came just as I was thinking about going down to Philadelphia to resume checking photographs, but I gather that I had better wait until next month. In the meantime, may I bother you with a few questions?

1. From whom should I get such editorial information as the dimensions of the area of a page for illustrations? I have been working with proportions, but every so often realize that clarity of detail will dictate the limit of reduction, and that, in turn, dictates allocation to pages.

2. Does the U.M. have a policy about profiles -- i.e., solid black to left or to right? Most of the inked profiles for A.E. have the black to right, but there have been a few to left; George used the latter when publishing Tomb 8, but out of habit I used the former when drawing study-profiles of pieces from the pits.

3. What was Michale's last name?: He should be included with those I thank in the introduction. I never would have gotten through those hundreds of bags of sherds if he hadn't been looking after the commissary.

4. Is the official inventory or a copy of it at the U.M.? It would quickly answer questions about missing or conflicting or otherwise puzzling data.

5. Who takes care of printing photographs and/or rephotographing objects now at the U.M.? Please let me know when you know whom I should bother with further Cypriote inquiries.
