May 16, 1978Dear Vassos:
It occurred to me after hearing about Miss Kondoleon that it might be a good idea to try to make it clearer to you what the status of our publications is. I realized, when I thought about it, that it has not been possible for you to judge very readily from the bibliography (alphabetical by author) which I give you here in America several years ago. I have enclosed, arranged primarily by site (Acropolis, Apollo and up to date one, here enclosed, etc.) which gives all the publications, actual or anticipated, for each site, an indication of which publications are final, which assigned or unassigned. Thus you should be able to tell at a glance what still needs to be done for which site if anything.
I think our record in this format is better than you have been inclined to believe. I suggest, at any rate, a sympathetic perusal.
I would like to engage your attention on the two items for which we have never been able to find authors : sculpture and other portable finds from the Acropolis and Apollo. I have no suggestion and I would like to get them assigned before I retire in June, 1980. It occurs to me that you must frequently witness the young people who take an interest in the mosaics. Our mosaics are firmly assigned to David Rupp who is an extremely able young man. But perhaps you could divert some of this interest to the unassigned material! At any rate, if you do have any ideas as to who might become interested in these two bodies of material I would appreciate it. I am also enlisting my colleagues here at the Museum for suggestions.
I hope you are well and flourishing.
Sincerely,
G. Roger Edwards
