May 11, 1976Dear Saul:

During the past year we have been reviewing the status of publications of the University Museum in order to see what has been accomplished and what remains to be completed, particularly with reference to our excavations.

In the course of this survey we have, among others, gone over the publications of Kourion with which you have been involved in part. We note with much concern that 25 years have elapsed since the publication of the architecture of Bamboula was assigned to you and that in this time nothing has been forthcoming.

We have come to the conclusion, from various indications, that you are unlikely to complete this, if only because of various demands on your time, such as your excavation in Israel, your teaching, and your museum. And, of course, also because of your health. You may indeed be relieved that we inform you that we have decided to terminate the assignment and to look for someone else to undertake the work so that the Curium publications can be completed. We trust that you will understand our point of view.

Would you kindly send us, for the next incumbent, any original records, diaries, catalogues, photographs etc. of Bamboula which you may have?

With good wishes for your other endeavors.

Sincerely,
