August 8, 1957Dear Porphyrios:

I am puzzled by a fair number of the discrepancies you report in your letter of August 3, especially with reference to the graffiti. In returning the pieces to you I used the copy of the letter of division in my files (3/35/5, 28th August, 1954). I seem to recall that there was more than one edition of this letter. Conceivably I have here only one of the penultimate editions and you are using the final one. If so, may I have a copy of the final letter? A couple of discrepancies are due, however, to later correspondence with Peter, as indicated below.

Seriatim:

"Sherds missing" : 665, 570: We were unable to find here when packing, as I believe I reported to Peter. Hope J. Benson can find when he returns from Greece.

1918 : typing error on list; should be 191 b. No doubt 191 b is the 191 listed below among "sherds surplus."

"Sherds surplus" : 191 : see previous 108 a : since 108b-f belong to you, let's ignore this. 531, 88 : I don't see anything in our records to indicate that these belong to us. ???

"Graffiti missing": G 19, 34, 36, 26, 27 assigned to University Museum by paragraph 2 B 5 of my copy of letter of division. G 67 comes from Bamboula Tomb 28, assigned to University Museum in 1948. G 2 comes from Bamboula Tomb 2, assigned to University Museum in 1948. G 62 apparently does belong to Cyprus Museum. Will return.

"Graffiti surplus": G 22, 17, 73, 63, 74, 2, 6, 8 assigned to Cyprus Museum by paragraph 1 B 6 of my copy of letter of division. can be given to J. Benson to return to us when he visits Cyprus in spring, 1958. G 61 assigned to Cyprus Museum per letter A.H.S.Megaw 7 Dec 56 G 4 assigned to Cyprus Museum per letter A.H.S.Megaw, 17 Nov 56. G 47 apparently does belong to Univ. Mus. If so, can be given to J. Benson to return to us when he visits Cyprus in spring, 1958.
