Dear Peter:

I have looked into the matter of the skeletal material about which you enquired in your letter of November 16.

Larry Angel and we have no objection to letting the skeletal material which Larry has studied go to Hjortsjö in Sweden for study. I think we must make the proviso that this be done without incurring any expense for the University Museum. I append a list of the material which Larry has studied. He agrees that any on this list may go. Any which do not appear on the lists I should like to have sent here for Larry along with the Sotira material. We would particularly like to have you send the bones from Jack's Bamboula tomb dug last summer.

The Sotira material, of course, we agree should come here for Larry. And we agree to paying shipping charges from Episkopi to Philadelphia. It is a little difficult to estimate the charges, since as I understand it shipping companies charge either by size or by weight, whichever is more profitable to them. It would be desirable from this point of view for the material to be packed both as light as possible and as small as possible. If the three cases you estimate turned out to be of the size of those I sent, the charges would probably run to about L35 or L40. Strangely (?) I can't seem to work up the same enthusiasm for paying large shipping charges for bones as I can for objects!

Before they are sent, however, we think it would be well to bring up the matter of payment for their return passage. That is, of the Sotira material particularly. We would find it difficult to undertake payment both ways. Can the Dept. of Antiquities as the joint member of the Sotira expedition undertake this? Or would you want the material to stay here and be stored by our Anthropological Department? Or, alternatively, could the material be shipped on to Hjortsjö from here and thence to you at his expense? Let me know your views.

We have heard that Henry Fischer completed his mission in Cyprus and that he reports most kind treatment at the hands of all concerned there. It was very good of you all to look after him.

I have on hand your letter of Dec. 15 about the guide book, but will reserve comments until my next.

Kind regards as always,
