1st September, 1954Dear [handwritten: Roger],
Thanks for yours of the 30th August. I have heard since that the packing for Philadelphia is done- which is quick work. It will I think be best if the lists of case contents come here where we will issue our permit and secure that which is required from the Supplies Section of the Secretariat. As soon as these are ready I plan to bring them down myself, probably on Friday 3rd September, which I hope will be in time for shipping on the 6th.
I agree to the loan of the following Cyprus Museum material:-
(a)selection of sherds for Bamboula settlement;
(b)" " " " Bamboula and Kalorziki tombs;
(c)P 1053
in addition to our Cypro-Minoan graffiti. I would like to have two separate lists of the loan items to be sent by freight and air mail (if any) respectively. There are forms of undertaking to return these, which you may sign when in Nicosia.
The position about the "missing" graffiti is now quite clear, except for G.42 and G.62. No spindle-whorl was found in the consignment from Episkopi on its arrival. The "G 42" which we allocated to the Expedition has "+" on the handle of a Syro-Palestinian vase. I presume this is G 62 reported as present on return of the consignment to you. If you confirm I will amend the item in the division letter.
If the spindle-whorl turns up P.D. will pronounce on it and I will confirm its allocation in a later letter.
There is no difficulty about sending a separate consignment of small valuables by air-mail, but it will save time if you bring a list (3 copies for us) of contents which we can check when finally packed and sealed.
