He will prepare case-lists of these also as he packs them and I suggest that he gives you a set with a covering receipt signed by him, which will serve as record for your expedition that these items have been handed over. I am giving him the tomb 40 tomb-list which you sent to check off the items as they are packed. There is no great hurry about supplying lists of contents of our other tombs as they are remaining at Episkopi for the present. I note that we shall be receiving the supplementary inventory sheets, including the coins and terracottas inventories, from Philadelphia in due course.
Since only the Ayios Ermogenes and Basilica material will remain undivided in Episkopi and since I shall be personally responsible to the Expedition for the latter, there will now be no need to isolate the undivided material from the remainder in a separate apothiki, as I had first proposed. The Ayios Ermogenes material will therefore remain where it is pending division,on the understanding that the Department has no responsibility for it. In the circumstances you might like to select the most valuable items and deposit them in our strong room.
The process of handing-over and taking-over of that part of the Cyprus Museum's share of the finds which will remain at Episkopi should, I suggest, follow the completion of the packing of the material which is being removed, as soon as you have someone available to work with our representative as a representative of the Expedition. What is required is a shelf-list detailing the items on each shelf, in three copies, one of which would be receipted by our representative and handed to you for the Expedition's records, one would remain in Episkopi and one would come to Nicosia.
I hope the division letter enclosed will prove to be reasonably final, but I am quite prepared to revise it if any errors or omissions are found. As things stand the inscribed sherd P.1053 which joins with others in N.Y. comes to us. But if the Metropolitan should agree to surrender what they have to the P. University Museum, I shall arrange for the joining fragments which your Expedition found to go there too.
Finally, may I thank you for the very great help you have given in this somewhat complex operation?
