23rd August, 1954

Handwritten: Dear Roger,

Thank you for your p.c. about the seal. I had forgotten it was in one of the tomb groups that came to us.

I have asked for Porphyrios to visit you from Troodos to deal with division of lamps, sculpture, Bamboula inventoried pottery, etc.

I enclose a note of the 1947 division of the Kaloriziki tombs.

We have had an unsuccessful hunt for the Bamboula settlement material from trench 21. According to our records only tomb material came here early in 1947. After Pete Daniel's death I specifically suggested to Mr. Hill, and he agreed, that the settlement material should all remain at Episkopi till studied. Some settlement material might have been sent up in error with the baskets of sherds from the tombs. Jack Benson has not looked at these sherds yet, and if he does so he might be able to identify any settlement material misplaced with them.

Would you please raise the question of the inscribed sherd found with others in the Metropolitan with Porphyrios.

I am having the remaining 125 trays sent down by K.E.M.

Jean Berard, who is arriving on the 8th to resume excavation of the Skender tombs at Ktima, has asked if Michali, one of your Episkopi experts, is available to work as his foreman again. I fear he may have found work with the Army, but would you let me know?

Thank you for your memo on the draft division letter and my agenda for our last meeting. As soon as I know the result of Porphyrios' visit, I shall prepare a revised letter which will serve as a basis for checking both-

(a) what is going to Philadelphia and

(b) what we will pack up to bring here when packing starts on 30th August.
