DEPARTMENT OF ANTIQUITIES.

Dear [handwritten: Roger], 16th August, 1954.

Dikaios has reported his proposals for a division of the Curium Expedition's finds and has handed to me the summary which I understand was provisionally agreed with you. I should like to look over a few of the items myself particularly the bronzes and seals before issuing the formal division letter. Assuming that this will result in no change, I have had the letter prepared (but not signed or dated) and enclose a copy so that you may verify that this, in its rather different form, correctly sets out the conclusions in the summary. There are probably some points for discussion and I hope to call at Episkopi on my way back from Paphos on [handwritten: Thursday] Wednesday evening the 19th August, or possibly the following morning. Meanwhile the following points occur to me:

a. Plaster is mentioned in the summary but there seems to be no such section in the inventory.

b. In the S. section of the inventory what does S. stand for

c. Mosaics. I have made no reference to these. They have heretofore been regarded as immovables and are not, I believe, included in the inventory of finds. The arrangement made after the discovery of the Achilles mosaic that if further mosaics of this kind were found elsewhere in the same building with funds secured for this purpose, they would be considered divisible.

d. Main Inventory. As the division is based on this, it is essential that our copy be completed before a handing-over of the finds can take place. I understand you are preparing supplementary sheets.

e. The Terracotta inventory is also required before we can check what is handed over to us. Your summary of this inventory is meanwhile of some use, but I note that in it the following items allocated to the Expedition in the summary (& in my letter) do not occur:

F101F55Tq 11
F102F51Tq 17
F 50F27TG 2
F 53F22

is there any discrepancy which can be adjusted at this stage?

f. Tomb-lists. We will need also a list of contents of the Sceptre tomb (inv.Nos. of the various items), and less urgently similar lists for the other Bamboula and Kaloriziki tombs found subsequently to those already divided.

g. Packing of finds for Philadelphia. I think you are aware that a Museum official will have to be present to check the contents of the cases against the division list. Please let me know when you want to start.

h. Material reserved for later division. I think this should be isolated in one the apothikes (the west one, I suppose) and should remain the responsibility of the Expedition, until division.

/i.
