Dear G. Roger: 6 July 1954 Statement from Chase Bank today; balance 7181.85. Perhaps you get copies too. Perhaps I wrote you that Hiram wants half about 15 September; so will not draw till then. No further word from Bollingen. Also yours of 27 June today. Rover: it will go to Egypt in any case, whether by triptique or as import (anthes thinks second-hand cars imported free) and if they keep it there that rich egyptian dept (Coxe fund) will reimburse Gordion for purchase of a new rover or jeep. But if triptique can be arranged in Cyprus and is valid for Egypt, so much the better. For the leicas, wide-angle one best left by all means at Gordion (or brought here if it needs cleaning and repairs) ond other one for Egypt brought here to be given to Henry who leaves for Nile valley in late November. About Cyprus airways stock, cant do anything from here but wish you good luck. About Christofis: will await developments. Also have eye out for other possible architect. Dick may be able to suggest one; but had thought of writing to Larry Roberts in Rome on possibility of getting one from there and so saving considerable on transport. But nothing to be done in any case until beginning of fall term when people will know what is available. Archaeological dept.: feel the same way that you do; but matter is in hands of university authorities for decision. Hope it will be unfavorable. Told Henry no icebox. Yes I guess you will have a bust September. Will let you know if I hear from Raci, whether Machteld arranged to have attic cleared of birds and eaves boarded up. Have been informed by college for women of one applicant for 504 in fall terms - heaa. architecture. But am hoping for not many students if any as there is so much else to do. If dept. of arky goes through, will certainly not be for next year. Suppose I will have to give baby course, and Machteld is threatening students for sem in epigraphy or topography; for you perhaps your baby course architecture, and museum course. Should leave time for study of Apllo. Last week came one kodachrome from Rochester. Have had no list but if you have it doesnt matter. Pix of sculptures against bushes (very successful) and many of a graffito or something of the sort. Also of a mosaic: have you spent the mosaic fund yet, and with what results. Adana usually very dareful and a good mother, but last Friday she sat on one of her children, which expeired in her arms. Now nine; eyes open and all very flourishing. One sold to Charles. Will give away three, keep two, and sell the rest. About that Filby: when she was coming into heat in April took her to Princeton not to be bred. She stayed from 26 April to 9 May, when they said she was all right and I brought her home. But both Izzy and Isty very much interested and actively so on arrival so took her to Braxton's for another two weeks. Thereafter O.K.; but she has swelled up as big as a house and developed a majestic feeding apparatus (in fact, on Sunday she was nursing one of Adana's strays, so she has milk). She is obviously going to have babies, and I suspect this very day; perhaps when I get home there will be 14 new ones, as Adana produced 10 and Filby is that much more noticeably big than Adana was. I do hope there was no accident either in Princeton or in Brazton's with a ppodle or such. Will see when the pups appear. Adana took 59 days and it is now 58 from that one fatal night of 9 to 10 May when Filby was home, so if the pups come today or tomorrow I guess they will be either Izzys or Istys. Lets hope for the best. Am on summer schedule now: come to Moo only on Tuesdays and Fridays. Rest of time at home and can work on sensible things in peace and without interruptions. So far have finished Arky article on Kiran Harman grave, and started on Gordion report for A.J.A. Then comes I.L.N. Gordion, then A.J.A. Agfanistan (Balkh) report, then north cemetery. After that, if it is not yet Christmas, the Tymettus dig for Hesperia. Then Gordion tumuli monograph. Should then be clran, unless something new is added , as no doubt it will be. Had hoped to get awat for about three weeks, but that will depend rather on dogdom than on science. If Filby produces today or tomorrow, will be weaned in six weeks: about August 18 and then perhaps I could get away if I find anyone to take care. Need someone who will either live in house, or come in to feed: cant afford to board out 27 dogs, and better to have them at home as they keep away robbers, needed as there is not a key in the whole place. Up to present weather has been bearable; over the weekend (4th July) really quite cool. spent too much time on Sunday, which was actually cold, lying on stomach to admire puppies; result yesterday misery of cramps and diarrhoea, from getting chill on stomack. Mostly over now. Pappy Goon back from Afghanistan and points east and west thereof. Seems in good form. No further news about Ecbatana. Not much else for present, and must go home to hold hand of Filby in case.
