Curium

9 June 1954Dear Virginia,

You are more than kind to go to so much trouble for Curium and to devote so much thought to us, especially when there is so much of your own demanding your attention just now.

I would there were some "intelligent slaves" to cope with all the material you have produced and to do proper justice by your work. Linda has gone off to Turkey for the summer, and who perhaps from the point of view of temperament it may be better that her stay with us was short-term, yet, of course, one misses the helpful hand in all those little jobs that need doing.

I am very glad to have the special list of Apollo handles, neat and will be just what is needed to check against the contexts. I don't hope that many will prove to have been found in anything like contemporary contexts, but with since Apollo seems to have been pretty well churned up, but with your helpful list it will be extremely easy to find out.

I did get the VG film folder from Peter safely, and thank you for the extra push to revise it for us.

The news of the camera's products is very disturbing. I shall have to put it into cold storage. I guess, until I get back to America, and use one of George's lidliges. I hope that his are all right. Very disturbing, since I had both of them signed by the Leitz people only about two years ago, and at fabulous prices. Perhaps sometime you could let me have a print to show the trouble and one of yours to show for comparison in order to get Leitz to diagnose properly.

There ought to be lots of news to tell you, but Curium life seems to have been relatively uneventful since your departure. Dikaios has been digging at Sotira under our auspices, and we have visited back and forth a couple of times. He has been made happy by finding lots of skeletons; he is so pleased he even wants to give us one for the U.M. Since Sotira he has been digging a little with a huge Cyclopean wall, a Late Cypriote fortified peninsular site, but low with a stained heart, but the last two weeks (West coast), like Ireland. Mitford has been laid enough to spend the last two weeks in Joe is flourishing, publications which we I now hear he expects to be well working up our inscriptions for us. Ka-Ka now has a mate and has set up housekeeping in the garden. Likewise a kestrel has been added to the collection.

My sister expects to be in Athens on Sunday and Monday, July 11 & 12; she expects now to stay at Pierce College. I will have her look you up, anyhow. I really think it's too much for you to put her up. You could show her the Agora. She thinks she'd too. It would be nice if you could show her the Agora. She thinks she'd

sending bits to Garden and as much as anything of Coin which have been recorded there. Your conclusions too, the that seems rather ambitious for so short a time.
